Hello everyone, I want to explain a few things before I get into writing up this section. Me as a Dungeon Master, I have put a lot of time into creating this campaign. The experience was an enjoyable one for me since I love creating things like this. I recently "thought" I had a solid four player group put together but apparanetly it was not meant to be. One player appeared to be super hyped up for it, but just all of a sudden stopped sommunication about it all together, the two local friends that said they wanted to play could not seem to accept the invite to Roll20 I had sent them or failed to send me their email address so that fell apart and the fourth adition accepted the Roll20 invite late because I was out of town the 3 days prior to us playing I was not able to get him added to the Roll20 campaign.
Look, it's simple - you either want to play or you don't. Don't waste my time dragging your feet when I could simply find players that actually want to play. I am still friends with each of these people but seriously lol if you want to play in something that I have worked my ass off creating then show me you want to really play. This is all I personally ask from people who join my campaigns and it's not much at all but at the same time I want serious players that will put fourth an effort to play and enjoy the campaign as best they can. Don't take these requirments listed below as me trying to be dictator in my campaign, I simply want to add people to this campaign that will take the game seriously and really put forth the effort into playing each ones character as well as enjoying the campaign itself.
With that being said .... This campaign "will" be played using D&D Beyond for all dice rolling and character sheets, Roll20 for battlemaps and Discord for audio and video, yes that's right, I said video. We will be live recording each session and uploading them to our Youtube channel in a campaign playlist. If you do not wish to use a webcam to be added to a live recording overlay then this is not the game for you. I have never done games over the internet but the pandemic has forced this upon me so I am doing the best I can with all of this. What I am about to ask of new players below is really not all that serious or hard to manage. Actually if someone plans to play D&D the way we will be playing it, then these requirements should be common sense things, they should just automatically come with the new player.
One last thing ... I see DMs on Roll20 and Reddit "charging money" to let players play in games lol seriously? That is just rediculas. I do not and will never charge people to play a game. Just putting that out to everyone. Once you read the below information and requirements and think you would like to join and are good with what is written below then contact me - if you are friends with me on Facebook then send me your email to be added to the Roll20 game and if you are new and are interested in playing then email me at jamesfullard@hotmail.com
Requirements For JoiningThis section of requirement is actually things that should just be common sense for the way we plan to play our games. This is not us trying to be overly strict on players, we simply want to put out the best quality game we can and the below requirements should be self explanatory.
• Webcam: You will need a webcam. We would prefer it be a 1080p webcam. Webcams are super cheap these days. We want to put out the best quality recording that we can. Noone wants to watch a low quality campaign on Youtube so with that being said, we want to put out the best quality recording that we can.
• Stable Internet Connection: When I watch a D&D game on Youtube or even Twitch, the single most irritating thing for me is a stream or game constantly buffering due to bad internet on the hosts part or watching player and even DM webcams constantly stuttering because they have a bad internet connection. This will not be one of those games. People who play in our campaign are "required" to have stable internet connections.
• Microphone: Please have a quality microphone that puts out your voice clearly. Also while we are playing/recording we would ask that you limit the background noise to a minimum. Constant background noise will mess up the ambience music and sounds that we will be using in our games so please make sure you handle the background noise.
• D&D Beyond: Be familiar with D&D Beyond by knowing how to use this website proficiently, by knowing how to instal the web app called Beyond 20. For Chrome it is this link, and for Firefox is this link. The Beyond 20 app allows dice to be rolled on D&D Beyond and have the dice rolls show up on Roll20.
• Discord: We use Discord for all audio and video for our webcams. This is required and we ask players to be familiar with how to use the video options and well as understand how to share screens when sharing screens is required.
• Roll20: All players are required to have a working understand of how Roll20 works. You would be joining a Roll20 game, so you should already understand how to use Roll20.
• Form of Contact: I need some form of contact as the campaigns Dungeon Master to get in touch with you as a player, some method of communication that you check often such as Facebook Messenger, Discord, email ... something along those lines. Times come when I need to contact a player for whattever reason and I need to be able to reach that player without having to wait for days for a reply.
Rules
Below are rules that we really want to enforce and have followed. The reason behind these rules are because I have seen these things happen personally and simply do not want to repeat them in a new campaign.
• Digital Devices: Not so much an issue in digital D&D but a problem we have had on occasion in the past at a live tabletop is players constantly playing or fiddling with cellphones. While this is not a super serious issue with online D&D, we do ask that you please do not have other games running while we play our games. Please don't be playing World of Warcraft or Diablo or some other such game while we play our digital D&D games "yes, I've personally seen this happen before". Your Dungeon Master puts in a lot of work into giving you the best campaign he/she can give you so in return we ask that you give them that same effort and respect. Being tabbed out playing a PC game until your turn begins is one of the most disrespectful things a player can do to a DM and if you are found doing this, you will not be playing with us any longer. We simply ask, for the couplr of hours we take for each session, please put in a couple of hours to this game.
• Roll20 Map Exploring: While adventuring in a dungeon or something similar, players will be in full control of character tokens and be able to move freely on the map. The reason behind marching orders is when the party encounters and enemy, you have your heavy hitters up front and the lower hit point characters following behind. This keeps spell casters from getting killed quickly. With that being said, if you as a player decide to start moving your token around unexplored areas of the map alone, be prepared to bump into enemies and be prepared to possiblt catch a quick death. Stay with your group for safety reasons "which should be common sense" . If you do stupid stuff like wandering away from the party be yourself trying to look around other areas, odds are your character will meet a quick death.
• Be Mature: We are all adults, please ... let us all act like adults when we play. (no need to elaborate on this any more - this should come naturally)
